Introduction
This course will offer LL.M with advanced standing and SJD students an opportunity to address critical topic areas in legal writing that are not substantially addressed in other courses. The intended audience is those students with an interest in working in fields involving legal writing, policymaking or producing journal‐style legal publications. The lessons are intended to significantly improve legal writing skills, English grammar and syntax, advanced research conduct and organization, and understanding of analytical and persuasive legal writing methodologies. To that end, students will be given a series of lectures, exercises, and writing assignments to facilitate the development of these critical skills. The course will be structured in a practical, “hands‐on” manner, offering the student’s constructive critiques of their writing style, grammar, spelling, and legal analysis, regularly and directly. It is anticipated that by the end of the course, each student will have fashioned a toolbox of legal writing skills enabling them to effectively engage in public discourse using the craft of legal writing.
